The €1 million in additional capital funding for Údarás na Gaeltachta in 2016 has been welcomed by Joe McHugh, TD, minister of state for the Gaeltacht.
The funding brings total funding for Údarás to €6,687 million, which the minister of state said will help the Gaeltacht authority "to retain jobs in the client companies in the Gaeltacht and attract further investment to Gaeltacht areas".
In welcoming the funding announcement, the minister of state also credited Údarás for what he called the authority's pioneering work on the implementation of the language planning process in the Gaeltacht, in association with local community organisations on the ground.
"Their work is of great importance," he said.
The Gaeltacht Act 2012 provides Údarás with a statutory function regarding the implementation of the 20-Year Strategy for the Irish Language 2010-2030 in the Gaeltacht.
"I said before that I intended to see further funding for Údarás na Gaeltachta under the revised estimates process, and I'm pleased that I have secured that extra funding now," the minister of state said.
